When the D-backs approached Justin Upton with the idea to help build a field for underprivileged youth in downtown Phoenix, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
The only concern Arizona’s All-Star right fielder had: his lack of a construction resume.
“I said, ‘I can’t do it with my bare hands, but if you get somebody to build it, I’d love to be a part of it,’” Upton said Thursday, when he saw his goal come to fruition with the opening of Justin Upton Field at University Park in Phoenix.
“This is an awesome opportunity,” Upton said. “I’m excited about this field being here, and I’m looking forward to kids being able to come out here and play on this field, look up to me and really enjoy the game of baseball and learn some things about life.”
Upton understands the benefits of the field better than anyone, as a product of Major League Baseball’s RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) program. He noted his plans to stop by the park to watch some youth baseball on his way to Chase Field this summer.
The D-backs have partnered with Arizona Public Service (APS) for the construction of the “Diamonds Back” fields, and CEO Don Brandt was on hand at the ceremony, praising Upton’s charitable work.
“It’s fitting that this field bears the name of one of baseball’s best young players,” Brandt said. “By attaching his name to this field, Justin has shown again he’s not just an All-Star on the field, but he’s a champion in the community.”
Brandt joked that the field — with a new electronic scoreboard, roofed dugouts, a dirt infield and finely cut outfield grass — is the second nicest in Phoenix, behind only Chase Field, which sits about two miles down the road.
The 31 “Diamonds Back” fields throughout the state have been built with aid from APS, local businesses and donations from players.
“Generations of kids — thousands and thousands of children — will be able to play in first-class facilities like the one we’re here for today because of the Diamondbacks’ commitment to getting it right,” Stanton said.

On June 24 – 25, the National Hockey League hosted this year’s NHL Draft in Minneapolis, Minnesota; home to NHL’s Minnesota Wild. For this major event, bluemedia was contracted to rebrand the entire Xcel Energy Center by printing, finishing, and installing over 300 signs within a 72 hour time span! The featured project of this event was the application of window perforation to the outside windows including mullions at Gate 1. In addition to this installation, a massive double-sided banner was hung from the rafters inside to compliment the outdoor artwork done at the Gate 1 entrance. These projects were completed in our 55,000 square foot state-of-the-art facilitation on the HP Turbojet at 184 by 591 inches and the Scitex XL Jet 3 at 239 by 239 inches respectively.
Along with this major project, another milestone was reached in bluemedia history…
For the first time ever, bluemedia used falconboard, a 100% eco-friendly product, to produce approximately 100 signs in the rebranding process. Falconboard is a paper-based substrate that allows the material to be completely recyclable even after it has been printed on. bluemedia is hard at work in practicing sustainability…Therefore, blue is the new green!

Fallon Ad Agency came to bluemedia with a brilliant idea of wanting to illuminate windowscapes for Cadillac. Versions of the windowscape were designed to look like the front and back views of the Cadillac CTS-V.
blue’s amazing installation team flew to Santa Monica, New York City, and Philadelphia to install and complete this innovative assignment. blue also developed a wireless trigger system that activates the headlight and taillights when someone walked by. Our installation team showed why they are nationally recognized and award winning by finishing both New York City and Santa Monica’s windowscapes in the same day!
With this awesome lighting and trigger technology, it is impossible to walk past without noticing this eye-catching display matching the excitement of one of the most exhilarating cars on the road today.
