blue is the new green

6.29.11

On June 24 – 25, the National Hockey League hosted this year’s NHL Draft in Minneapolis, Minnesota; home to NHL’s Minnesota Wild. For this major event, bluemedia was contracted to rebrand the entire Xcel Energy Center by printing, finishing, and installing over 300 signs within a 72 hour time span! The featured project of this event was the application of window perforation to the outside windows including mullions at Gate 1. In addition to this installation, a massive double-sided banner was hung from the rafters inside to compliment the outdoor artwork done at the Gate 1 entrance. These projects were completed in our 55,000 square foot state-of-the-art facilitation on the HP Turbojet at 184 by 591 inches and the Scitex XL Jet 3 at 239 by 239 inches respectively.

Along with this major project, another milestone was reached in bluemedia history…

For the first time ever, bluemedia used falconboard, a 100% eco-friendly product, to produce approximately 100 signs in the rebranding process. Falconboard is a paper-based substrate that allows the material to be completely recyclable even after it has been printed on. bluemedia is hard at work in practicing sustainability…Therefore, blue is the new green!

A Grand Slam for blue!

6.14.11

Completed in less than a week, bluemedia wrapped not one, but six light rail trains plus ceiling graphics…a first in printing history! The six different trains were wrapped in 3M adhesive back vinyl with 3M luster laminate to advertise for MLB’s 2011 All-Star Game festivities at Chase Field and the Phoenix Convention Center on July 10 - 12. The six different trains were wrapped to feature the major events taking place throughout the duration of the week: the All-Star Game, ASG FanFest, ASG Events, MLB and Boys & Girls Club, and the ASG Junior RBI Tournament.

The fluidity of blue’s install team was so smooth for the duration of this project that the six trains were completed in record time! 33 pieces were produced and installed in order to execute MLB’s artwork on one side of the train, which essentially equals 66 pieces per train. In addition, four 16 foot ceiling graphics were installed on the interior of each train, which has never been done before. A total of 420 pieces were created, cut and installed with zero reprints and not to mention zero errors. That’s one grand slam!

“The wraps and the ceiling graphics look amazing!  They are an attractive addition to our system and the public response has all been positive.  Thank you Dbacks, MLB and bluemedia for your artistry and hard work.”

- Hillary Foose, Public Information Officer for METRO Light Rail

Takin’ a Walk Downtown

6.8.11

bluemedia recently completed a very unique project that has never been done before; the installation of a graphic on the South elevation Phoenix Convention Center walkway in Downtown Phoenix. For two consecutive nights, the City of Phoenix completely shut down access to 3rd Street in order for our team of four installers to successfully mount the colorful vinyl graphic for this summer’s hottest event; MLB’s All-Star Game!

The walkway sits two hundred feet above the ground on 3rd Street in Downtown Phoenix. The assistance of two 135 foot lifts helped our installers to safely mount straight vinyl on the glass windows across the entire south side of the walkway. Printed on our HP Turbo Jet printer in our 55,000 square foot state of the art facility, MLB designed the artwork for the 15 by 145 foot graphic to implement their “grand slam” presence in Downtown Phoenix.

Congrats to Dan Wheldon and Bryan Herta Autosport!

6.6.11

bluemedia would like to congratulate Dan Wheldon and Bryan Herta Autosport for winning this year’s Indy 500. This was also the 100th Anniversary of the race, which adds special meaning to an already prestigious event. In addition, this is also Dan’s second victory in the 500!

We were contacted by BHA in early April to wrap a show car for their new sponsor WilliamRast, Justin Timberlake’s denim culture clothing line. They signed on for a one race deal at the Indy 500 and where the show car was unveiled at the Long Beach Grand Prix. bluemedia was given less than 3 days to complete this wrap, which took a total of 30 man hours to complete by one of our top installers – Indy cars are not easy to wrap!

The show car was unveiled along with the sponsorship announced inside the IZOD Indycar Pavilion at Long Beach where it remained on display for the duration of the race weekend. The vehicle was then moved to the Ronald Reagan Library where it will reside for a couple of months.

Congrats to Dan Wheldon and Bryan Herta Autosport from all of us at bluemedia!
